Why does my new silicone smell like chemicals?

You might notice a slight “new” scent when unboxing your Moonkie products. This is completely normal and safe.

🔬Here is the science behind it: Moonkie uses 100% Platinum Food-Grade Silicone. Unlike cheaper plastics that leach chemicals, silicone is cured using high heat. Because we hermetically seal our products immediately after production to ensure hygiene during transport, the natural “curing” scent is sometimes trapped inside the packaging.

This is not a chemical off-gassing from toxic additives; it is simply the smell of trapped air from the thermal stabilization process.

How to remove it instantly?

Because this is high-quality silicone, the scent is temporary.

1. The Boil Test

Place the product in boiling water for 5 minutes.

2. Air Dry

Let it air dry in a ventilated area.

The heat helps the remaining molecules evaporate immediately. If the smell persists after boiling, it is not Moonkie quality — but you will find that with our products, the scent vanishes, leaving you with pure, odorless safety.
